Licensed two way radios offer increased range through increased power output offering better building penetration and increased security. These radios require a licence from Ofcom at a cost of £75 and can be found here. With recent advances in technology, licensed radios have become more affordable, with SFE launching the incredible S555 radio at only £99, which can be found here.
UHF vs VHF.
VHF gives greater range, but isn't so great at getting through dense obstructions such as buildings. UHF uses shorter radio waves, whilst it doesn't have as much range as VHF it is great for penetrating buildings. Farmers and Taxi's tend to use VHF, whereas schools, leisure centres and shopping centres tend to be UHF.
